This crop progress update is based upon a November 8th, 2019 Twitter roll call. For this harvest poll, we surveyed the percentage of Ontario corn acres farmers had harvested by Sunday, November 10th (with a few commenting they are still working on soybeans).

Soybeans

While we were surveying corn acres, comments from Niagara, Lambton and quite a few Eastern Ontario counties indicates 2019 soybean harvest hasn’t quite wrapped up.  Replies indicate growers still have 5 to 50% of acres to harvest depending on the individual farm and county.

Corn

Since the last survey, acres continue to come off, although some areas are having more success than others with the recent snow slowing harvest. Using the average of Twitter replies from across the province, we are 25.2% completed. Using a weighted average (based upon the map below) and 2018 corn acres by county, we estimated that Ontario was 21% complete by November 10th. Perhaps on the high side compared to other estimates but seems directionally correct.

The next harvest update poll will be Friday, November 22nd.
